Marks & Spencer Creating Over 3,000 Retail Jobs In The UK

High street chain Marks & Spencer has announced plans to create over 3,000 full and part time retail jobs across the United Kingdom.

M&S is set to open stores in eight new locations and will also add twelve food halls, a move which bosses say will create up to 3,400 vacancies before the end of 2028.

We already know that six of the new ‘full line’ M&S stores (venues which sell food and homeware as well as clothes) will be launched in Birmingham, Croydon, Leeds, Liverpool, Manchester, Thurrock - but there are two other locations yet to be decided.

Likewise, nine of the locations for the new ‘Simply Food’ food halls are still not revealed but Barnsley, Stockport and Largs in North Ayrshire have already been confirmed.

The expansion and relocation plans for a total of twenty new outlets will come at an investment of £480 million and will create hundreds of full and part time jobs at dozens of towns and cities across the UK.

Announcing the plans, Chief Executive Officer at Marks & Spencer, Stuart Machin, said: “Stores are a core part of M&S’s omni-channel future and serve as a competitive advantage for how customers want to shop today.

“Our store rotation programme is about making sure we have the right stores, in the right place, with the right space and we’re aiming to rotate from the 247 stores we have today to 180 higher quality, higher productivity full line stores that sell our full clothing, home and food offer while also opening over 100 bigger, better food sites.”

“Our investment in stores not only delivers a better experience for customers and colleagues, it boosts local communities with new job creation and will help us deliver a more sustainable estate in every sense.”

“The out-performance of our recently relocated and renewed stores give us the confidence to go faster in our plan,” added the CEO.
