The pay is generous with most companies offering a basic of around £6 an hour with a bonus structure based on performance. The work can be full time for a minimum period (often 1 month) or part time with evening and weekend hours. Care Assistant | |

Care assistant work is generally continuous personal care regarding hygiene, toileting, dressing, bathing, eating and general assistance. Although this can initially be a stomach turning experience, the personal rewards and satisfaction are immense. The type of people you can care for ranges from the elderly to the infirm or disabled. The precise nature of this job will depend on the needs of those you work with, but you can be sure that the work you do genuinely touches the lives of others. Care assistant work can often be arranged on a full time or part time basis, and is often shift work. Many companies also like to have bank staff who they can call on days when they need extra cover. This is a great option if you are only looking for work on a casual basis because you are not obliged to accept shifts offered to you – you only work them if you want to. Care assistant work is great experience for anyone wishing to progress into midwifery, nursing, medicine, physiotherapy or other caring careers.

Working with kids on Easter or summer camps can be a real blast! There are loads of different types of job available from cooking to leading activities, and loads of camps including: sports, arts & crafts, musical, educational, religious etc. Whatever the role, you should be working with people of a similar age with similar interests. | |
Many camps offer staff accommodation as part of the package so this is a chance to get a gap year job away from home and see another part of the UK, or the world, whilst working! There is usually a minimum commitment of 2.5 - 3 months so this is a perfect gap year job to combine with travelling. Applications to summer and Easter camps usually have to be made between November and February so look to apply early!

Bar Work |

A gap year bar job obviously involves pouring drinks, serving food, cleaning tables, taking food and drink orders and the like but the good news in terms of gap year work is that you have incredible flexibility. You can do bar work on a full time, part time or casual basis, which means you can blitz it to save money for travelling or fit it in around other jobs. Many pubs offer accommodation so you can take off and work in a new town if you want to explore another part of the UK. Bar work is also extremely to find abroad, so again, it is great as a gap year job because you can head off on your travels and get some paid work in a place you want to stay in for a while. It is also a fantastic way of meeting people and getting the local gossip on a place!
