Aldi Creating 2,000 New Full & Part Time Supermarket Jobs In The UK

German chain Aldi has announced plans to create 2,000 new full and part time supermarket jobs in the UK.

The retailer is on an expansion drive to open 100 new supermarkets with an investment of £1.3 billion. Each new store will create an average of 20 new vacancies at location all across the UK

Aldi hopes that the expansion plans over the next two years will see them take a bigger share of the UK’s grocery market as well as creating hundreds of new jobs in England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland.

The company is currently the fifth biggest supermarket chain in the UK (after Tesco, Sainsbury's, Asda and Morrisons) but the opening of 100 new stores will see them break through the 1,000 supermarket milestone.

Aldi already employs around 38,000 people in various full and part time roles across the UK, but will increase their headcount by more than 5 per cent to over 40,000 once the store expansion is complete.

As well as vacancies within their supermarket stores, Aldi will also be advertising more warehouse jobs at their distribution facilities in the UK.

Aldi UK and Ireland Chief Executive Officer, Giles Hurley, said: “Whilst 2020 was an extremely challenging year, our colleagues stepped up when it mattered most. Their dedication to the communities they serve has been nothing short of remarkable. Despite some of the most difficult conditions our sector has ever seen, our people underlined the strength, success and spirit of our business.”

“As well as delivering record sales, we continued to invest for growth, deploying over £600m in stores and distribution centres across the UK. This helped to create thousands of much-needed jobs and support for British farmers and manufacturers.”

“We’re continuing to gain even more customers, with over 60 per cent of households shopping with Aldi in the last year. By redefining the discount supermarket in the UK, creating more places and more ways to shop with us, we are excited to provide millions of new customers with access to Aldi’s award-winning quality and unbeatable value,” added Mr Hurley.
