Spicy fast food chicken chain Popeyes has announced plans to create 2,000 full or part time restaurant jobs at locations across the United Kingdom.

The company, founded in New Orleans, Louisiana and headquartered in Miami, is set to open 30 new branches in the UK this year and will create an average of over 65 jobs at each location.

Popeyes only launched in the UK three years ago and already has over 35 restaurants here. The new expansion plans will see the chicken chain almost double its number of outlets in England, Wales and Scotland.

Likewise, the company currently employs around 2,300 full and part time staff in the UK, so Popeyes will also almost double its headcount during 2024.

Announcing the expansion plans, Popeyes’ chief development officer, Tom Byng, said: “We opened our first store in November 2021 to huge hype and acclaim and customer appetite shows no sign of slowing down. To date, we've opened 38 locations up and down the country and converted legions of fried chicken fans to Popeyes.”

“We're excited to be giving even more people their first taste of New Orleans as we double our estate in 2024. We're particularly proud of our geographical spread of expansion, including our first ever travel hub restaurant in Waterloo station, which will be fuelling hungry travellers with great food and a dose of the famous New Orleans spirit,” added the CDO.

The latest two branches of Popeyes have both opened in London - one in Hammersmith and one in Ilford - and a further restaurant is planned for Waterloo Station in the capital.

Other areas set to benefit from new Popeyes restaurants and jobs this year include Birmingham, Bury, Bishop Auckland, Exeter and Nottingham in England; Aberdeen and Glasgow in Scotland; and Swansea in Wales.
