Discount retail chain Poundland has announced plans to create up to 800 new full and part time jobs across the UK in 2023.

Poundland is on a drive to open or relocate around 50 stores and will create an average of around 16 retail vacancies with each new venture.

The expansion plans will add close to 50,000 square metres of retail space to Poundland’s empire, creating hundreds of jobs at many shopping centres, retail parks and high streets in towns and cities nationwide.

In the next few weeks alone, Poundland will launch five new stores:

- London: Spires Shopping Centre, Barnet

- London: Lordship Lane, East Dulwich

- Glasgow: Crown Street Retail Park

- Aldershot: Hampshire: Wellington Centre

- Castle Bromwich, West Mids: Timberley Lane

Following those stores and other ones which are still in negotiation, Poundland plans a further 26 launches in the second quarter of the year and 13 more before the end of 2023.

Founded in 1990, the West-Midlands-headquartered firm has around 900 outlets in the UK, providing jobs for over 18,000 employees in full and part time roles.

Announcing the transformation and recruitment plans at the discount chain, managing director of Poundland, Barry Williams, said: “Our transformation means we have to step up our search for the best locations to bring the best of Poundland to customers across the UK and that's precisely what we'll do in 2023.”

“We will continue to work hard to find the right locations that suit the range of Poundland formats we now offer; from small neighbourhood convenience stores to our large destination stores,” added Mr Williams.
