Dalata Group To Create 100 New Hotel Jobs In Glasgow

The Dalata Hotel Group has announced plans for a new property which bosses say will create around 100 new full or part time jobs in Glasgow.

The Irish hotel chain is opening its 50th hotel in the Scottish city at the iconic and historic Custom House building in the city centre, creating dozens of new hotel jobs for students and other locals in the area.

The chain opened its first hotel in Glasgow last year with the launch of a Maldron Hotel. The new hotel will be part of the company’s Clayton brand and will be situated on Glasgow’s Clyde Street.

The Dalata already has 11 other Clayton hotels across the United Kingdom, along with six under the Madron brand.

The latest Clayton in Glasgow will feature over 300 rooms, a ballroom and events space on the seventh floor terrace.

Commenting on the plans, Martin Breslin, a regional partnership executive for the Scottish national tourism organisation VisitScotland, said:

“At a time when we are working hard with partners to restore the city’s tourism industry to growth, this is a welcome addition to Glasgow's capacity for attracting new events and leisure business in the months and years ahead.”

“This new hotel, with its sensitive incorporation of the historic Custom House building, represents a fresh boost for the city centre and is a great sign that Glasgow is back in business,” added Mr Breslin.

The chief executive officer of Dalata Hotel Group, Dermot Crowley, also commented, saying:

“The hotel, our first with investment partners Union Investment, has been expertly developed at Glasgow’s Custom House, an iconic listed building that has been part of Glasgow for 180 years.”

“This standout property has been made possible through the hard work of our partners on the project. McAleer and Rushe who constructed the hotel on behalf of the developers Artisan Real Estate and our landlords Union Investment.”

“We have created 100 new jobs and have already assembled a great team under general manager Hazel Galloway, who successfully led the team at Maldron Hotel Glasgow City previously,” said the CEO.
