Pet Food Firm To Create 150 New Full Or Part Time Jobs In The UK

Pet food retail specialist Jollyes has announced plans to create 150 new full or part time jobs in the UK.

The recruitment drive comes as Jollyes launches an expansion plan for 20 new stores across the country

The pet food supplier has seen unprecedented demand for its products during the COVID 19 pandemic lockdowns as more people bought pets.

Figures from the Pet Food Manufacturers Association, reveal that there are currently around 24 million pet dogs and cats in the UK, with an almost exactly even split between the traditional rivals for human attention.

Since the start of the pandemic alone, more than 3 million Uk households have bought a new pet.

Jollyes reports that demand for bird feed - both pet birds like canaries as well as wild birds, has driven growth for their company, with a 50 per cent increase in purchases in the last quarter compared to the same period two years ago.

Food for reptiles has also been popular, with sales up 14 per cent compared to 2019.

Overall, Jollyes has seen turnover increase by more than 20 per cent since two years ago.

The firm currently has just short of 70 stores in the UK, so the expansion plans will see them increase their portfolio by around 30 per cent before the end of 2022. The company expects to create an average of 7 to 8 new full or part time jobs with each new store launch, however, the retailer hasn’t yet revealed where the new branches will open.

Announcing the expansion plans, Richard Cotter, the Executive chairman at Jollyes, said: “While remaining open throughout the pandemic to serve pet lovers has not been easy because of the added cost and complexity, our people have more than risen to the challenge, and we’ve enjoyed a very successful year with sensational progress.”

“And we’re excited about our future. We’ve worked hard to build a strong platform that will allow us to do much more; new and better stores, wider ranges and further investment in our people as we bring their passion for pets to more communities across the UK,” added Mr Cotter.
