Following on from our job article at the end of last month about SNOP creating 130 Sunderland jobs in the car industry, Japanese firm Calsonic Kansei has become the latest company to bring automotive jobs to Sunderland.

The manufacturing company which supplies parts to Nissan will create up to 145 Sunderland jobs at their Pennywell Industrial Estate plant in the city. Calsonic Kansei is set to invest over £15 million at the site as they increase the range of products they manufacture. New products on offer will include dashboards, circuit boards and heating components.

Labour MP for Washington and Sunderland West, Sharon Hodgson, said the announcement from Calsonic Kansei was more great news for automobile manufacturing in the city.

“I hope that the new products which are developed as a result of this investment will continue to help the company play a key role in the continuing success of the Nissan factory, and provide good quality employment and training opportunities for my constituents for years to come,” said Ms Hodgson.

Prime Minister David Cameron also welcomed the new Sunderland jobs that the Japanese company will create saying that it was an indication of Sunderland’s expertise in the car industry.
