Graduate engineers in high demand

22 Nov 2007

Graduate engineers in high demand There is a shortage in skilled graduate engineers meaning that those seeking graduate jobs will be much sought after.

In the Association for Consultancy and Engineering (ACE) Skills Shortages and Recruitment Agency Behaviours report, there was found to be a definite shortfall of top class graduates going into the engineering and consultancy sectors.

According to the ACE, this shortage is such that MPs must begin to investigate how it can be resolved.

Chairman of the ACE, Michael Whitwell commented: "We must align the work of universities with the needs of UK businesses.

"Many graduates are coming out of university and are unable to find work, and yet there are 20,000 vacancies in the consultancy and engineering sector."

He continued, saying that the industry is not benefiting from the lack of qualified engineers as it is making recruitment practises more "aggressive" than necessary.

However, graduates in the subject will find this working in their favour, giving them an advantage when on the hunt for the perfect job.

Graduates are also advised that proficient statisticians are in high demand in the financial sector, with firms increasingly turning to specialists on finding a lack of applicants for these jobs.
