As part of its vision to shape a more sustainable energy future, Northern Powergrid is hiring over 1,000 new employees and offering graduate programmes to develop a skilled and forward-thinking workforce.

The network operator, which provides electricity to eight million customers in the North East, Yorkshire and northern Lincolnshire, is investing over£2.8 billion to support its transition to a low-carbon energy system over a five year period from 2023 to 2028.

The graduate programmes, which last for just over two years, include electrical power network engineer apprenticeships that will equip the trainees with knowledge and experience to work in the energy sector.

After completing the programmes, graduates will have the chance to join either the operational or the non-operational teams at Northern Powergrid.

Announcing the new opportunities, the Head of Resourcing at Northern Powergrid, Victoria Short, said: “It’s an exciting time to join the energy industry with net zero and decarbonisation driving some of the most significant changes for energy networks in decades.”

“We want to hear from people who want to kick start their career in the New Year and be part of our commitment to improve the region’s power network and create a greener energy system.”

“Our graduates and technical trainees will learn the necessary skills to help us create the energy system of the future. They will get an insight into all aspects of our business, and be coached and mentored by experienced colleagues,” added Ms Short.
