Marks & Spencer is the latest major retailer to announce its hiring plans for the festive period and this year the company will have 10,000 Christmas jobs up for grabs.

The Christmas temps will start their seasonal jobs at M&S from the 19th November onwards and many will work right through into the New Year.

Vacancies for M&S Christmas Customer Service Assistants will be available in all stores across the UK and work to be carried out will include stock replenishment, product promotion and a range of other tasks to make sure customers have a great in-store experience over the festive holidays.

The recruitment drive for Christmas staff this year marks a significant increase on the number of temps taken on last year, when M&S hired fewer than 7,000 seasonal staff. For Christmas 2023, the retailer is looking for 40 per cent more temps than it did in 2022.

Announcing the 2023 Xmas jobs at the start of this week, Marks &Spencer’s Director of Operations, Sacha Berendji, said: “Our fantastic store colleagues play such a big part in delivering the magic of M&S at Christmas to our customers. And this year we’re recruiting even more colleagues to ensure there’s always someone on hand to offer support and recommendations.”

“The Christmas period is a busy but exciting time for M&S and no two days are the same. In fact, many colleagues started their M&S careers at Christmas and have since gone onto progress across the business.”

M&S is just the latest employer to reveal thousands of Christmas jobs across the UK. Delivery firm Yodel is looking for 2,000 temps, Royal Mail has 16,000 vacancies, whilst supermarket chains Sainsbury’s and Aldi have 22,000 vacancies and 4,500 jobs on offer respectively.
