Tesco Creating 15,000 Seasonal Christmas Jobs In 2022

Supermarket chain Tesco has announced plans to create thousands of full and part time vacancies for the festive period in 2022.

In what the supermarket’s own press release describes as ‘good news for job-hunting students,’ Tesco is creating upto 15,000 seasonal Christmas jobs this year.

There will be various shifts available so students across the United Kingdom should be able to easily slot into flexible roles this Xmas, either staying where they are studying or heading back home for the holidays.

Rates of pay for these seasonal roles start out at just over £10 per hour but can reach up to £10.30.

Tesco has also said that talented Christmas colleagues could easily be made into permanent staff after the holidays end.

Launching the recruitment drive for thousands of seasonal Xmas staff across the UK this year, the People Director at Tesco, Rachel Bushby, said: “We know times are tough out there at the moment, so this is a good opportunity for anyone looking to boost their income over the festive period or who needs to find a stepping stone back into the world of work.”

“The jobs have traditionally been popular with students looking to earn some extra money during the holidays as well as people who simply want to help their local community to enjoy a great Christmas.”

“The kinds of people we are looking for are those who work well in teams, are flexible and also love helping others and are prepared to make a special effort to achieve that,” added Ms Bushby.

Mehboob Ismail, who has worked for Tesco since joining as a Customer Assistant in the run up to Christmas last year, said: “I love being part of a bigger team and all of the colleagues and managers are friendly and supportive. A highlight for me is being given the responsibility to look after the big seasonal events aisles during Christmas.”

“My advice to anyone considering taking up a Festive Colleague job is ‘just give it a go, you have nothing to lose.”

“I found myself out of work at a very tough time but Tesco gave me a chance, at my age with no qualifications. I am still here now as a permanent colleague, with job security and I love working here,” said Mr Ismail.
