Online food ordering and delivery firm Just Eat are creating 1,500 new flexible full or part time couriers jobs in Liverpool.

The jobs will be agency contracts and Just Eat expect to fill all of the Liverpool roles by the end of this year.

Just Eat had already rolled out their new agency worker model for couriers in London last November as well as in Birmingham just two months ago, creating 2,000 new takeaway courier positions in the process.

Following the success of those two trials, the company is now expanding the model to Liverpool and is expecting to create almost 75 per cent further vacancies by rolling out the scheme in the Merseyside city.

Just Eat already uses their agency worker model in more than 140 European cities worldwide, but has, so far, only tentatively adopted the practice in two cities for the UK workforce.

Although not classed as full time employees of the company, Just Eat’s agency couriers can enjoy benefits such as hourly pay of at least the minimum or living wage, pension contributions, holiday pay, sick pay, training and insurance.

Announcing the jobs bonanza for Liverpool locals, the managing director of Just Eat UK, Andrew Kenny, said: “We recognise our responsibility to provide couriers with the best possible opportunities and we’re delighted that almost 2,000 jobs have already been created as part of our worker model.”

“We’ve reached this milestone significantly ahead of schedule and following a positive response in London and Birmingham, we’re excited to roll this out to Liverpool, creating 1,500 more roles this year.”

“We believe giving couriers access to the benefits and security associated with a model like this is the right thing to do and we’re hugely ambitious to grow this further out across the UK,” added Mr Kenny.
