Nissan’s New Model To Create 2,000 Jobs In Sunderland
Nissan, the Japanese car manufacturer, will create up to 2,000 full or part time jobs in Sunderland with their plans to build a new car model at their factory in the city.

Investment in the company’s new compact car runs to £125 million and will create 1,600 jobs in the supply chain in addition to the 400 in-house Sunderland jobs at the Nissan factory.

Production of the new Nissan model will begin in the middle of next year after a £9 million grant was secured from the UK government.

Once the new Sunderland jobs are filled, the factory will have a headcount of 6,000 staff, the largest that the manufacturing plant has ever seen in its 18 year history.

Speaking about the new Sunderland jobs last week, Business Secretary Vince Cable, said: “It is fantastic news that Nissan will be building the new model in Sunderland. The investment is a boost for jobs at Nissan's plant as well as the wider supply chain.”

Mr Cable added that vehicle manufacturers worldwide are clambering to build their new products in the United Kingdom and said that the coalition Government valued the business that automotive sector brings to the UK economy.
