InterContinental Hotels Group To Create 3,000 Jobs

25 Feb 2012

InterContinental Hotels Group To Create 3,000 Jobs The InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) has said it will create up to 1,144 hotel jobs before the end of the year, in a total of almost 3,000 new full and part time jobs within the next three years.

The Group, which includes the familiar Holiday Inn name in its family, has over 250 hotels in the United Kingdom so the new jobs will be spread across many parts of Britain. The new hospitality recruits will increase the headcount at IHG in the UK by around 20 per cent from the current level of 15,000 staff.

The hotel firm has also launched a new training academy for young people in London who would like to get into catering and hospitality. Around a quarter of existing employees at IHG are aged between 18 and 24.

Worldwide, IHG is involved in operations at almost 4,500 hotels in nearly 100 countries and has forecast that it will recruit close to 90,000 new workers internationally over the next few years.

Speaking about the new UK hotel jobs at the launch of the IHG Academy scheme, Nick Clegg, the Deputy Prime Minister, said, “IHG are leading the way in their sector through a tailored academy programme. It's an added investment that means young people can learn the skills for the industry in a local college, and then start their career in a local hotel.”

“This shows real investment in our future workforce, is a huge boost for jobs across the country, but crucially will see local people benefit from training and work,” concluded the Deputy Prime Minister.
