Sports Sector To Provide Over 2,000 New Jobs

18 Sep 2009

Sports Sector To Provide Over 2,000 New Jobs This week the Work and Pension Secretary, Yvette Cooper, announced that over 2,000 new full or part time jobs would be created for unemployed youths by the sports sector.

The Government will fund 200 of the jobs at 72 Football League clubs from the Championship, League One and League Two. All of the clubs involved will recruit up to three youths under the umbrella of the £1 billion Future Jobs Fund.

A further 2,000 new full or part time jobs will be created in community sports by giving unemployed young people the opportunity to develop coaching and training skills for local public bodies and charities in such sports as tennis and swimming. Any young people who have been unemployed for 10 months or more are eligible to apply for the positions.

The Future Jobs Fund was set up to create 150,000 jobs, two-thirds of which are aimed at getting youths back into work.

Yvette Cooper said this week that, "We're determined to do everything we can to help young people get their first job despite the recession. Never again must we see a generation lost to work as we did in the 80s and 90s. That's why its so important that sports clubs across the country have now signed up to do their bit to give thousands of young people a kick start in their careers.

She said that Future Jobs Fund had already provided funds to create over 50,000 full and part time jobs for young people and others in the struggling communities and stressed that the Government were ‘determined to keep increasing support so that young people can get the jobs and training they need.’

We at E4S think that this is a great initiative and fully support any attempts to get young people back into work. If you are looking for such openings then try looking through the hundreds of part time jobs we have in our search pages.
