Oh, I Do Like To Work Beside The Seaside!

10 Feb 2009

Oh, I Do Like To Work Beside The Seaside! Do you fancy a holiday or part time job with UK holiday company Pontin’s? Well, last week, the firm announced that it would be creating 2,000 new jobs in the coming months.

The posts, which will also include some full time positions as well as seasonal and part time jobs, will increase the holiday camp’s quota of catering and bar staff, construction workers, support staff and even their famous ‘blue coats’ – the senior entertainment staff who try to make sure that guests receive a warm welcome and enjoy a memorable holiday.

Chief Executive Ian Smith of Ocean Parcs – Pontin’s owners – said: “"We are tremendously excited about the investment planned for the development of our Pontin's holiday centres and the employment and tourism revenue that will be generated by this substantial investment. It is particularly rewarding to be able to announce these plans which will not only generate increased tourism but create over 2,000 new jobs whilst the country is in a recession."

Although Pontin’s only has around 800 people in full and part time jobs at the moment, it plans to increase that number steadily, hoping to have around 3,000 staff on the payroll next year and could possibly go as high as 4,000 in the future.

The move comes as travel industry experts are predicting that the pound’s fall against the euro will persuade more British people to stay in the UK instead of heading for Europe this year. Relative prices on the continent have increased by around 40% to 50% in sterling terms during the last few months.

Pontin's has locations around the UK with five seaside holiday parks in England - Ainsdale Beach, Southport; Camber Sands, East Sussex; Brean Sands, Somerset; Blackpool, Lancashire and Pakefield in Suffolk. They also have a site at Prestatyn Sands in North Wales.

Although they say they would like to recruit most of the new staff for the positions from the local areas, they say that sometimes entertainment has to be brought in from elsewhere. So, if you are looking for holiday or part time jobs then the UK travel industry could be just the ticket for you this year.
