Royal Mail Delivers On 1,000 New Apprenticeships For Young People

Royal Mail is launching a new scheme which will see the flagship postal service creating 1,000 apprenticeships nationwide in the next year.

The first batch of around 500 new apprentices will start work with Royal Mail this September and will complete the apprenticeship at the end of October 2022. A further 500 places for budding young postmen and postwomen will open up next year.

The scheme, named The Postal Apprenticeship, will be Level 2 apprenticeships and successful apprentices will be offered a full time role with the Royal Mail once they finish the 13 month training programme.

The Royal Mail apprenticeships will be 80 per cent ‘on-the-job’ whilst the other 20 per cent of the training will be carried out online.

Applications for the new Postal Apprenticeship launched yesterday (28th June 2021) and you can search for vacancies in your area on the Royal Mail careers website here:

Kickstarting the recruitment drive for new apprentices, the operations development director for the Royal Mail, Ricky McAulay, said: “We couldn’t be prouder to launch our Postal Apprenticeship Scheme at a time when the pandemic continues to take a heavy toll on career opportunities across the country.”

“We’ve placed a real emphasis on ensuring that our scheme has a range of transferable skills so that successful candidates can take what they learn with them for the rest of their careers.”

“Having started my work at Royal Mail as a Postal Cadet in 1986, I know the benefit that these initiatives can have on a career. I look forward to seeing these aspiring apprentices join us at Royal Mail,” added Mr McAulay.

A spokesperson for the Royal Mail added: “With the launch of the Postal Apprenticeship Scheme, Royal Mail plans to build on that history and bring fresh talent to the organisation. Applicants who successfully complete the scheme will be offered a permanent role at the company.”
