Northern Rail Creating Over 300 New Jobs In The North West

Northern rail is set to create over 300 new full or part time roles in North West England - and the great thing is that no prior experience is required!

The company is on a recruitment drive for train drivers and conductors, offering a variety of training opportunities in Manchester.

Northern is offering positions for train drivers with a potential salary of up to £54,000, even for applicants who have never driven a train before.

The company is currently on a mission to expand its team by more than 300, including train drivers and conductors, with training provided in the North West city.

Northern, which runs train services across the north of England, has plans to hire 108 drivers and 198 conductors this year alone.

The transport firm is eager to receive applications from individuals of diverse backgrounds who have not previously worked in the railway industry.

According to Northern, the starting salary for a train driver is £23,000 per annum. However, after completing a 64-week training program, this can rise to £54,500.

For conductors, the starting salary is £22,000, which can increase to £29,000 after a 16-week training program.

To become a driver or conductor, individuals must undertake a paid apprenticeship at Northern's training centres in Leeds or Manchester.

Currently, Northern employs over 2,000 drivers and 1,400 conductors.

Commenting on the recruitment plans, Tricia Williams, the head of operations at Northern, said:

“We have a range of rewarding roles for anyone who wants to become part of a dedicated team that runs more than 2,500 services a day to over 500 destinations. We are looking for customer-focused people with excellent communication skills who thrive in a dynamic environment and may not have considered a career in rail before.”

“Successful applicants will demonstrate a high level of responsibility, a strong work ethic and a commitment to maintaining safety standards.”

“We'll be recruiting throughout the year and provide all the training you need. We want our workforce to reflect the communities we serve and we're proud to include people from all walks of life in our team, from military veterans and ex-police officers, to former office workers and stay-at-home parents,” added Ms Williams.
