Company Details

Sports Direct is one of the biggest sports retailers in the United Kingdom. The company started trading in the early 1980s and is now a group which, in addition to the eponymous Sports Direct name, counts brands like Lillywhites, Field & Trek, Republic and USC as part of its family.

The core business of Sports Direct sells a huge variety of sporty gear. You can find football shirts, trainers, outdoors gear and equipment and clothing for almost every sport under the sun. Brand names they sell include Adidas, Dunlop, Karrimor, Lonsdale, Nike, Reebok, Slazenger and Umbro.

The Sports Direct group as a whole runs more than 450 outlets in the UK and has a total turnover in excess of £1,800 million. The business turns a huge profit of over £100 million from its head office in Shirebrook, Derbyshire.

The Sports Direct company was originally formed by Mike Ashley who was a squash coach at county level. The first store, called “Mike Ashley Sports” in those early days, was at Maidenhead, but the firm now has outlets all over the United Kingdom, Ireland, Belgium, France, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Portugal and Slovenia.

The group now employs over 10,000 people - and YOU could be one of them!

Sports Direct offer full & casual worker opportunities at their retail business including temporary roles during the Christmas period. They have outlets all over the country so there is a good chance of finding a vacancy at a Sports Direct within a few miles of where you are studying.

In store positions include everything from sales assistants to store managers and area managers at Sports Direct.

Graduates, or undergraduates who are due to complete their degree this year, should also check out the options at Sports Direct headquarters in Derbyshire. Positions at head office include the full complement of support roles you would expect at a big retail operation - such as finance, sales, marketing, logistics and many more careers.

The Sports Direct website says they have no stereotype candidate. They consider all applicants from all backgrounds, but put a strong emphasis on people who are highly motivated, customer focused and have a desire to succeed in life.

Previous retail experience is not essential for a job with Sports Direct but it will obviously stand you in good stead if you can furnish your CV with some relevant work experience history before you apply.
