The deadline for Barnardo’s Spring Volunteer Internships has been extended…but you’ll have to be quick if you are interested. The application window for the three month placements has been extended to twelve o’clock (noon) on Friday 30 January.
Fortunately, they will still accept your application by email – so you’ve still got time if you would like to get some work experience in the charity field. (Please note that they will not accept CVs or covering letters. Download the Barnardo’s internship application form here and send it to the email on the form)
Barnardo’s began with the work of Dr Thomas Barnardo over 140 years ago and is still one of the most important charities working with - and for - children today. The charity, who’s President is HRH The Duchess of Cornwall, believes that every child and young person should be able to fulfil their potential. They help with various issues such as disabilities, homelessness, drug misuse, poverty and domestic violence.
The placements will begin on 2 March and run through until 29 May 2009 and will be hosted in various locations across the UK. Previously, the internships have included work experience in fundraising marketing, volunteer development, brand and new media and other areas. Most of the placements are full-time but they do have a few part-time volunteer places too.
In addition to getting hands-on work experience and work place skills, Barnardo’s say the placements will provide ‘an insight into working in the charity sector’ with a chance of making ‘a real difference to the charity.’ And, as if doing something for other people wasn’t enough, you will also receive travel and lunch expenses and access to Barnardo’s internal vacancy list.
To apply for the positions you must be 18 or over, IT literate and have achieved A-levels or equivalent.
