Ascensos To Create 600 UK Call Centre Jobs On The Isle of Wight

Ascensos, an outsourcing and contact centre specialist, is to create 600 UK call centre jobs on the Isle of Wight.

The four year old company will open its first UK base outside of Scotland, initially creating 400 vacancies on the island with 200 more positions to follow at a later date.

The offices will be located at Cowes and are expected to be ready to start taking inbound calls this September.

The new staff will also deal with emails, online enquiries and social media for new and existing clients.

Clients which Ascensos provides customer contact support include famous names like Argos, B&Q, Game, Karen Millen, Monsoon, Oasis and Wickes.

Once the recruitment drive is completed by Ascensos, the company will have increased its worldwide headcount by 50 per cent from the current 1,200 that the firm employs in Scotland, Romania and the Netherlands.

Ascensos has invested £1 million in the deal, with the Isle of Wight Council putting up a further £2 million towards the new contact centre. The Council estimates that the deal will boost the island’s economy by around £35 million.

Ascensos’ operations director for the Isle of Wight, Lyle McLean, said: “We're already in discussions with the DWP and Isle of Wight College and our recruitment campaign will get underway shortly.”

Chief Executive Officer and founder of Ascensos, John Devlin, added: “This is a major strategic move for us, increasing our capacity by 30 per cent and establishing our first UK facility outside Scotland. We're excited to be coming to the Isle of Wight. The people, the financial assistance and the support in recruitment, training and development made for an unbeatable package.”

“Ascensos is growing rapidly and we have become a force to be reckoned with in the UK contact centre sector. We've a reputation for doing things differently in this space and we look forward to opening Ascensos Isle of Wight after the summer,” said Mr Devlin.

Leader of Isle of Wight Council, Councillor Dave Stewart, welcomed the announcement, saying, “I am very excited that Ascensos has chosen the Isle of Wight as the location for its major UK expansion. The Island is already home to a number of major, global companies and is perfectly positioned to support the ambitions of Ascensos, with a motivated, skilled and enthusiastic local workforce.”
