Video CVs better portray candidates skills

Video CVs better portray candidates skills A top accountancy firm has used multimedia CVs to shortlist candidates in its latest graduate recruitment drive, reports Onrec.com.

Barnes Roffe, which is a top 50 accountancy firm in the UK, sent prospective employees a selection of questions which they were asked to answer using TalkingCV, which combines video, audio and written aspects into the application process.

According to Onrec.com, the company claims that multimedia CVs saved it time as it avoided the need to carry out preliminary interviews of graduates.

Shen Yap, Audit Manager at Barnes Roffe’s Leytonstone office, told the news provider: "We found TalkingCV to be a most effective way of narrowing our selection process."

"So often a candidate looks great on paper and then you sit face to face in a first-round interview and realise they have little in way of communication skills," he added,

Employment partner at Cobbetts Kathy Halliday told the Birmingham Post video CVs could increase the risk of an employer discriminating against a prospective candidate on the basis of age, race, sex religion or disability.

She warned employers about making stereotypical assumptions based on submitted video CVs.
