The expansion of an existing industrial area near Hull could lead to the creation of 3,000 full or part time jobs in Yorkshire.

The Capitol Park and Goole36 industrial areas could be expanded by over 2 million square feet now that provisional planning permission has been granted by East Riding Council. The plans will now be subjected to an acceptable flood risk survey before full planning permission can be granted for the project.

As well as expanding existing industrial space, the plans include provisions for office space, a hotel and leisure facilities at the Capitol Park and Goole36 distribution hub in East Yorkshire. Tesco, Guardian Glass and Drax are amongst the existing companies which already have operations at the site.

Indigo Planning, an independent consulting firm will be working on the development in the coming months if planning permission is given by East Riding Council. Ther Associate Director, Nick Fillingham, said: “Goole36 and Capitol Park now represent a major opportunity in the East Riding area. Their location within the country's largest enterprise zone is a clear signal of the growth opportunities they represent and the creation of more than 3,000 new jobs will provide a significant boost to the local economy.”

Retail estate developer Sterling Capitol will also be working on the Goole site. Their Director, Mike Heydecke, said: “This is a significant development for us, underlining our commitment to Capitol Park Goole. These exciting plans will create much-needed business space and jobs in the Goole area. As a company, we are proud of what we have achieved in Yorkshire. Job creation is at the heart of our plans and we have developed some of the most impressive business parks in Yorkshire, with an excellent mix of tenants and facilities.”
