A new 3,250 square metre development at Baxter Gate is set to create 250 full and part time restaurant and cinema jobs in Loughborough.

The new £25 million complex is to be overseen by property developer Citygrove and will feature an eight screen Cineworld and a handful of cafes, restaurants and bars. The new cinema and restaurant complex is forecast to be open for business as early as Easter next year, and the units up for grabs have all but been filled seven months before launch.

The founder and chairman of Citygrove, Toby Baines, believes the economy has picked up in the last twelve months, which has made it easier to fill the restaurant units at Baxter Gate - with seven already signed up, and the last one in the process of sealing a contract.

“We have done a lot of cinemas in the UK and decided that Loughborough was a very good town for this, with a big student population. It was a huge opportunity for us. I have worked a lot with Cineworld and I think they are one of the stronger operators out there. I also think there is a very good catchment in and around Loughborough, coupled with the benefits of the student population,” added Mr Baines.

The seven restaurants, cafes and bars already confirmed for the new Loughborough development are Bella Italia, Loungers, Mimosa, Nando's, Pizza Express, Preto and Starbucks.

Once complete, the Loughborough complex will be owned by savings and investments company Standard Life, which has pumped £18 into the development.

The new Loughborough cinema and restaurant jobs at Baxter Gate will apparently be a mixture of full time positions and part time jobs. The vacancies will start to be filled once the tenants begin to move in, expected to be from next February onwards.
