TJ Hughes is to create around 50 retail jobs in Walsall as its makes a comeback to the West Midlands’ town later this year.

The retailer is to set up stall at the Saddlers shopping centre in Walsall in October at a outlet which has been vacated by Argos. TJ Hughes was a brief resident on the high streets of Walsall for a couple of years, but has not had a presence in the town since 2012.

TJ Hughes will now join other tenants at the Saddlers Centre, such as Boots, Burger King, Costa Coffee, Greggs, Marks & Spencer, Poundland, Ryman, and Subway.

Explaining why the return of TJ Hughes is so important to the area, Steve Pope, asset director for Topland, the firm which owns the Walsall shopping centre, said: “We expect TJ Hughes to deliver significantly more footfall than the old Argos store and help us to deliver our strategy for the Saddlers Centre. Customers will have more reasons to shop local. Convenient shopping on people’s doorstep with convenient, reasonably-priced parking and good transport links to Bradford Street bus station and Walsall train station.”

Walsall councillor Adrian Andrew, regeneration chief for the West Midlands’ town, welcomed the TJ Hughes announcement as a win-win for Walsall and praised Topland for for its efforts in bringing new businesses to the area:

“The people managing there have done a fantastic job getting new shops. It is good for their centre, it is good for the town centre and it is good for the people of Walsall,” said Mr Andrew.
