Alton Towers To Add Dozens More Theme Park Jobs

A new themed restaurant for Alton Towers could create dozens of new full and part time theme park jobs if Staffordshire Moorlands District Council sign off permission for the plans.

The new restaurant would have over 160 covers and would be located in close proximity to their popular Air rollercoaster attraction. The proposals would see an existing shop converted into an eating area which would more than double the size of the current floorspace.

A spokesperson for the theme park said that (subject to planning permission) work could get underway at the end of the current season, and the restaurant could be ready for business by the start of next season:

“We're hoping to convert the existing shop at the exit of the Air rollercoaster into a 163-seat restaurant, with a retail space along the side. This additional facility will create around 40 new jobs and will provide a much enhanced dining experience for guests in this area of the resort, with fantastic views of their friends and family enjoying the rides. It's important that we keep refreshing what we are offering our guests and we feel that this additional restaurant will be hugely popular given its location,” explained the spokesman.

Initial noises from Staffordshire Moorlands District Council sound positive, with local councillor and cabinet member Mark Winnington saying: “Staffordshire is a fantastic destination with a huge amount on offer, and our tourism economy is booming. Not only does the sector provide a 1.6 billion boost to our economy each year it also supports over 28,000 jobs. The news of the additional jobs being created at the new restaurant is good for the county, local people and adds to our overall tourism offer.”

Alton Towers sees millions of customers enter its theme park every year and provides seasonal jobs and permanent positions for hundreds of people in the local area.

Staffordshire Moorlands District Council is anticipated to make a decision on the new Alton Towers proposals in the next two to three months, so we’ll keep you posted with the latest developments over the coming weeks...
