Jaguar Land Rover Contracts Could Create 5,000 Full Or Part Time Jobs

08 Mar 2011

Jaguar Land Rover Contracts Could Create 5,000 Full Or Part Time Jobs New contracts offered by Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) could add as many as 5,000 full or part time jobs to the UK economy says the luxury car manufacturer.

The company will begin to manufacture a new vehicle called the Evoque – also known as the Baby Range Rover. JLR has awarded over £2 billion’s worth of contracts to over 40 UK firms to supply them with the component parts required for the manufacture of the Evoque.

At the moment, both Jaguar and Land Rovers are selling in huge numbers across the world and JLR hope that the 2.2 litre Evoque will become one of their most popular vehicles and help increase profits even further than the £1 billion that JLR are expected to make this year.

Even though the Evoque is not due to be launched until this summer there is already said to be over 100 thousand customers interested in the vehicle.

Last week, the Prime Minister, David Cameron, spoke with enthusiasm about the new full and part time jobs that the JLR contracts would create: “This is great news and another example of the strength of UK manufacturing. JLR's announcement has the potential to create thousands of jobs and opportunities around the country and is a real boost to the economy.”

And Ralf Speth, chief executive of Jaguar Land Rover, said that the new Baby Range Rover was just the tip of the iceberg for new JLR vehicles. “The billions being spent on Evoque is just the start, with 40 significant product actions coming over the next five years,” said Mr Speth.
