Job Description

Get practice ready with Vets for Pets and Companion CareLichfield Vets for Pets are looking for a Graduate Veterinary Surgeon to join their fantastic team and on our award-winning graduate scheme. Lichfield has a nicely manageable town centre that you can walk around, plus everything you need for everyday shopping within easy reach of Birmingham. A short train ride between the two, the town has good schools and pleasant countryside that is easy to get to. Many footballers choose to base themselves here, so you might well end up looking after one of their family members. Some of the team members live in nearby Burton, which is only 20 mins by car. Being based within a Pets at Home store we have an excellent relationship with these colleagues as well and benefit from collaborative working. Parking is easy as we are on a retail park, with a variety of shops locally and a fully equipped gym which our team can get discounted membership.

The role is within a relatively new practice with a team who work well within the wider group and their clients. Many of the team have been here since the doors opened and works hard to maintain a positive environment

Tudor our experienced vet has been with the Group across different practices and settled in Lichfield, as it’s a nice part of the country. He has an interest in soft tissues surgery, ophthalmology and internal medicine.

The team enjoy Lichfield as it provides all the benefits of Birmingham within a beautiful ecclesiastical centre, that has avoided industrial and commercial development with over 230 listed buildings (including many examples of Georgian architecture) and preserves much of its historic character. Our practice owner Gabriel would agree the clinics main strength is being run and owned by local people delivering the best practice possible for the local community of Lichfield and surrounds.

This offers the team the opportunity to personalise the care on offer and ensures that each member of the team has a real voice in how care is delivered to their patients enabling a real “proud to be part of the team” work ethos. With genuine support and emphasis on your wellbeing, you can realise and maintain your full potential in an environment that encourages a healthy work/life balance too. You’ll be supported from day one by a dedicated mentor/VetGDP Advisor, you’ll also be able to take paid leave to attend the varied CPD programme designed by vets specifically for new graduates. As you build your confidence in caring for pets and their owners, you’ll grow your own client base and see the continuity of cases with the support of your wider team. You won’t be in sole charge of cases until you’re ready.

This is a full-time role and will be for 40 hours per week. There is no OOH’s and so when you are finished for the day you are always able to rest and recharge.

As a standard on the Graduate Development Programme we offer a 2 year programme with no financial tie-ins, guaranteed starting salary of £35,500 per annum with reviews each year on programme, 10-12 clinical/non-clinical structure CPD days a year with covered travel costs, access to wellbeing support and free membership of wellbeing app and support with practice transfer should the need to arise.
