04 Nov 2008

Renewable sector skills 'in high demand' Despite the current economic downturn students looking for graduate jobs in London may be interested to hear that the renewable energy sector is currently under skilled, it has been reported.

The entire renewables sector is in need of top-quality candidates to fill an increasing number of roles, according to New Energy Focus.

David Butters of GRS told the news provider: "The emergence of renewables and the ever changing environment make this not only a more stable sector, but also a hugely exciting one for candidates to enter into."

"Demand in this sector for good candidates will only continue to grow," he added.

According to the British Wind Energy Association (BWEA), the wind power sector grew by 35 per cent between 2002 and 2007 and now employs 5,000 people.

The group claims that renewable energy will attract between £19 and £39 billion of investment by 2020 and create up to 57,000 new jobs.

Meanwhile, the Financial Times reports that Qatar is to invest £250 million in low-carbon technology, with the majority of the cash going to the UK through the Qatar-UK Clean Technology Investment Fund.
