Yorkshire Water Hired Dozens Of Graduates In Record Recruitment Drive

Yorkshire Water has received applications for 65 graduate roles, the largest intake in its history.

The announcement comes as the company gears up for a huge £8.3 billion investment programme across the wider North East region.

Yorkshire Water has more than doubled its graduate hiring compared with last year, with roles available in a wide range of departments.

Opportunities on offer included engineering, project management, strategy, regulation and environmental specialist positions, along with placements in several other technical and corporate teams.

Graduates recruited this year will be supporting Yorkshire Water’s five year plan which focuses on improving services, strengthening water infrastructure and reducing the organisation’s environmental impact before 2030.

The increased recruitment drive reflects a growing need for skilled people who can help modernise essential services and support the firm’s transition to more sustainable operations across the water industry.

Yorkshire Water says the expansion of its graduate scheme will help bring fresh ideas and new technical talent into the organisation at a crucial time.

Launching the recruitment drive last month, Yorkshire Water’s Funded Learning Lead, Ann Stanley, said: “This time last year we recruited 24 graduates, which was our biggest cohort to date as we were ramping up to start delivery of the next investment period.”

“This is now underway, and at the core of making sure we can meet all our commitments is bringing more exciting talent on board, which is why we are once again hiring graduates in record numbers.”

“The placements we’re offering are high-impact and straight away we want our graduates to be involved in helping us to tackle challenges like climate resilience, the future of water and our current environmental impact,” added Ms Stanley.

Two current graduates at Yorkshire Water commented on their own experiences of working for the utilities firm:

Engineering graduate at Yorkshire Water, Amaar Farooq, said: “Working here offers you the chance to deliver an essential service. You’ll be part of projects that directly impact public health and the environment, giving you a real sense of responsibility and purpose.”

His colleague Lewis Cosford, a graduate project manager, added. “I’ve gained experience in so many parts of the business and so many projects already. Having these different opportunities has kept the learning engaging and it’s fantastic that there’s so much freedom to figure out your own career path here.”
