Logistics Hub Set To Create Over 2,000 Full & Part Time Jobs In North West England
Plans to transform a long-underused stretch of Widnes waterfront into a major industrial and logistics hub could create more than 2,000 full or part time jobs in the North West of England if approved.
Property firm FI Real Estate Management has launched a public consultation on proposals to redevelop land on Earle Road, with the scheme set to be dubbed as Catalyst Business Park.
The development would see the construction of large-scale industrial and logistics units alongside new roads and infrastructure.
According to the developer, the business park would feature buildings ranging in size from 1,000 square feet to 500,000 square feet, making it a great option for a wide range of occupiers. FI Real Estate Management estimates the project could generate around £269 million in additional economic value, supporting jobs and investment across the local area.
FI Real Estate Management says the waterfront site has been underused for around 50 years, during which time it has suffered from issues such as fly-tipping and antisocial behaviour. Redevelopment of the land is expected to deliver approximately 2,250 permanent roles, including skilled jobs, engineering vacancies and management positions.
Plans published as part of the consultation indicate the scheme would be delivered in phases, with a series of planning applications submitted as work progresses. The site spans both Halton and Warrington, meaning applications are being made to both local authorities.
Alongside the industrial units, the proposals include a package of supporting infrastructure and environmental improvements. These would include landscaping, tree planting, new drainage systems, cycleways, footpaths and internal roads, aimed at improving access and sustainability.
FI Real Estate Management has also said the buildings would be designed with a high level of environmental performance, helping to reduce running costs for future occupiers while supporting wider sustainability goals.
If approved, the development would represent one of the largest regeneration projects on the Widnes waterfront in decades, with the potential to significantly boost employment and economic activity in the area.
Announcing the development plans, FI Real Estate Management’s managing director, Tim Knowles, said: “Catalyst Business Park represents a major opportunity for Widnes. For too long this site has remained undeveloped. However, our project can deliver large-scale and high-quality employment space, leading to the creation of thousands of new jobs including specialised roles.”
“Our long-term plan will revitalise the Waterfront area and will offer substantial environmental improvements, alongside significant economic and social benefits. We are keen to receive feedback as we further develop these exciting proposals,” added Mr Knowles.
