Big businesses addresses diversity

25 Sep 2008

Big businesses addresses diversity Businesses are fearful about missing out on ethnic minority graduate talent, according to the Independent.

The paper claims many companies are pooling their resources in order to attract the brightest university leavers and diversify their businesses, with many firms prioritising recruitment and retention of under-represented groups.

Sandra Kerr, national director of Race for Opportunity, told the news provider: "I think what's happened is that many employers are realising it's not just the 'come and join us' message that is important with graduates."

Head of graduate recruitment at IBM Jenny Taylor told the paper that the company has made significant changes to its recruitment policy in recent years.

Pushing its drive for diversity into the public domain, IBM sponsors the Asian Business Women awards and has launched the Blue Talent scheme to support high achievers among the ethnic minorities in its business.

According to Tim Holden, managing director of HR consultancy Fluid, a diverse workforce brings in a variety of talent and promotes a positive, integrated and inclusive image to the local community, both of which can enhance business activity, reports hrzone.co.uk.
