Temp jobs are a "stepping stone" to work Temporary positions can help women employees into work, according to the Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC).

Anne Fairweather, the head of the organisation's policy unit, states that "in many cases" a temporary job can "provide the ideal starting point for women either entering the job market for the first time … or who want to find a new role".

Ms Fairweather's comments on the back of a report from REC that shows temporary positions can be used as a "stepping stone" for women.

However, the policy unit head also states that temporary positions can be for both genders as they help people to "familiarise" themselves with the workplace.

The publication - entitled Jobs for the Girls - was put together by REC's business enterprise and regulatory reform committee.

Representing the recruitment industry, REC has over 14,000 members. It also states that there in excess of 1.2 million temporary workers employed in the UK each week.
