Discount retailer Primark is set to open a new Glasgow store before Christmas, a move which bosses say will create 200 new jobs in the Scottish city.

The new shopping venue will be located at Glasgow Fort and the store is set to open next month (December 2024).

Full and part time jobs set to be filled at the new Primark in Glasgow include team members, stockroom and retail assistants, as well as People & Culture Administrators.

Recruitment for the roles is already underway and successful applicants can look forward to wages of at least £12 per hour. Another benefit of landing a job with Primark is that employees receive a 15 per cent in-store discount.

The two-storey Primark will cover over 3,000 square metres and will be the retail chain’s 21st venture in Scotland. It also takes the company closer to the 200-store milestone as the Glasgow Fort venue will become Primark’s 195th venture in the UK.

A press release announcing the launch of the new store and recruitment plans for the location said:

“Each role plays an important part in creating a fantastic store experience. As a retail assistant, day to day responsibilities vary from restocking the sales floor to serving customers at the tills, while stockroom colleagues are responsible for processing all deliveries in and out of the stockroom.”

Carolanne Molloy, who will be store manager for the new Primark Glasgow Fort, said: “I’m really proud to be launching a brand-new Primark at Glasgow Fort and bringing more of what people know and love about us to shoppers in Scotland. But now I need a brilliant team to join me.”

“I can say from experience that Primark is a fantastic place to work and it’s also a very exciting time to be joining us as we’re a growing business and stalwart on the Great British high street. So far there’s been a lot of anticipation from customers, and we can’t wait to share more with everyone very soon before our doors finally open,” said the store manager.

Glasgow Fort’s Centre Director, Phil Goodman, also commented, saying: “We know that our shoppers are very much looking forward to Primark joining the centre soon, as are the whole team.”

“Not only will it be a fantastic addition to our existing fashion, beauty and home brands, it’s great to see just how many roles are being created and the new opportunities it’s bringing to the local community,” added Mr Goodman.
