Aldi Creating A Further 5,500 Supermarket Jobs In The UK

Aldi has expansion plans which the grocery chain forecasts will create around 5,500 new full and part time supermarket jobs across the UK this year.

Just a couple of weeks ago, the German discount supermarket retailer said that it would be looking for 1,500 new staff this year.

The revised hiring estimate of a further 4,000 new employees marks a significant upgrade to the UK’s fourth biggest supermarket group’s recruitment plans for 2024.

The announcement comes as UK shoppers seem to be continuing a move towards discount stores as the cost-of-living crisis drives consumer behaviour.

Recent surveys have revealed that UK shoppers have spent over 40 per cent more on goods at discount retailers at the start of 2024, compared to the same period last year.

Most of the roles on offer at Aldi will be entry level positions such as cleaners and store assistants but there will also be a host of managerial vacancies available for applicants with more experience.

Announcing the expansion plans, the Chief Executive Officer of Aldi UK and Ireland, Giles Hurley, said:

'We're continuing to welcome more and more new customers through our doors, with people coming for our low prices but staying for our award-winning quality and British sourcing. However, there are still areas of the country that don't have an Aldi or that need more or larger stores to meet demand.”

“That is what our 2024 expansion plans aim to address. We now have more than 1,000 stores across the UK but there are plenty more Aldi stores still to come, in 2024 and beyond.”

“Our colleagues work incredibly hard and are without a doubt a huge part of our success at Aldi. We are looking forward to welcoming even more colleagues up and down the country to Team Aldi during 2024 as we progress towards our goal of making affordable, quality food accessible to everyone,” added Mr Hurley.
