The Citizens Advice is creating dozens of new jobs in North East England as part of a drive to offer debt advice in the cost-of-living crisis era.

Over 50 vacancies are set to be created in North Tyneside and Northumberland as part of the £228 million investment by the UK government via the Money and Pensions Service (MaPS).

The cash injection, designed to offer advice on how to deal with debt in times of hardship, will create jobs for advisers to help vulnerable UK citizens via email, webchat, social media and other online channels.

The 50+ jobs are set to be split almost evenly between Citizens Advice services in Ashington in Northumberland and offices in North Tyneside, with slightly more vacancies on offer at the former location.

Commenting on the recruitment drive, Citizens Advice North Tyneside’s chief executive officer, Mark Almond, said: “Not only is this good news for the thousands of people who are in need of debt advice, it is also brilliant news for people who are looking to work in good, well-paid jobs in the advice sector for high calibre, nationally recognised charities.”

“Last year North Tyneside Citizens Advice helped over 3,700 debt clients with 32,000 debt problems,” confirmed Mr Almond.

Citizens Advice Northumberland’s chief executive officer, Abi Conway, also commented, saying: “Access to free, impartial and high-quality debt advice can make a real difference to individuals who receive it, and as the cost-of-living crisis deepens, we know that demand for this advice is only going to increase.”

“We are delighted to have received this much-needed funding and are thrilled that it is coming to the North East,” added the CEO.
