Marks & Spencer Creating 300 New Warehouse Jobs In Bradford

Retailer Marks & Spencer is creating 300 new full or part time warehouse jobs at its distribution centre in Bradford.

M&S is to use unoccupied space at its existing facility, opened in Bradford just over 10 years ago, in order to launch a second warehouse in the Yorkshire city before the end of the year.

The site, just of the M606, should be ready for action in time for the new recruits to help expedite orders for M&S’ busiest period of trading in the run up to the Christmas holidays.

The existing team at Bradford already had a dress rehearsal for such busy periods when they carried out a trial run of around 14,000 dispatches per day in the lead up to Christmas 2020.

Work is already underway at the new warehouse and it is expected that the facility will eventually handle around 1 in 5 of all orders placed online through M&S.com.

Once at full capacity, the Bradford facilities will be processing more than double the amount of orders they handled during the trial period, with an initial target of 35,000 dispatches per day.

The job descriptions for the 300 vacancies have not yet been announced by either M&S or their logistics partner at the Bradford distribution hub, XPO.

The programme manager for the M&S distribution centre in Bradford, Sarah Monk, said: “Warehouse colleagues have been our behind the scenes heroes during the pandemic, making sure customers’ parcels are picked, packed and shipped, safely and efficiently.”

“The team at Bradford did an amazing job supporting online Christmas orders and we’re all so excited that we’ll now be permanently running an online operation from the site which will include the recruitment of 300 new XPO colleagues,” added Ms Monk.

M&S.com’s director, Stephen Langford, also commented, saying: “We’re transforming our Clothing business to be more relevant, more often for our 22 million customers, however they choose to shop.”

“Whilst it’s exciting our stores have reopened, growing our online business has never been more important and part of that is a behind the scenes network which means we can serve our customers as efficiently as possible,” said Mr Langford.
