Pets at Home are creating around 1,200 full or part time warehouse vacancies in Staffordshire now that the county council has given approval to the company’s plans.

Pets at Home is investing £48 million to open a huge distribution facility at a business park in the Redhill area, close to Stafford city centre.

In addition to the warehouse and logistics facilities, the new Pets at Home Redhill site will also feature office space and room for over 600 vehicles.

Announcing that the plans will now be going ahead, Staffordshire County’s Cabinet Member for Learning and Employability, Philip White, said:

“The approval of the Pets at Home centre is fantastic news for Stafford and the wider area. It will add to an already thriving commercial site with excellent connectivity positioned on the A34 and close to junction 14 of the M6.”

“A development of this size will bring a mix of head office and warehouse positions so there will be a good number of higher-skilled roles created. Logistics is a strong sector in Staffordshire due to our central location and available workforce.”

“As we move out of the pandemic later this year, it is hugely encouraging to know that there will be hundreds of available positions for Staffordshire people,” added Councillor White.

The good news on job creation for the region from Pets at Home follows just two weeks after retailer Asos announced they are creating 2,000 warehouse jobs in nearby Lichfield, 18 miles south of Stafford.

Pets at Home, which started out with its first outlet in Chester in the early 1990s, now has over 450 stores and more than 300 ‘Groom Rooms’ across the UK.

The pet retailer provides jobs for around 15,000 people and was voted 5th in the Great Place to Work UK Best Workplaces Large Category (2018).
