Amazon Creates 1,000 New Jobs In Nottinghamshire

Amazon has announced plans to create 1,000 new full or part time jobs in Nottinghamshire with a new 50,000 square metre ‘fulfilment centre’ at Summit Park in Sutton-in-Ashfield.

There are various roles on offer - from warehouse jobs to pickers, packers and shippers - and all of the new recruits will be on permanent contracts with Amazon when the centre is ready for action later this year.

Recruitment is set to get underway for all of the new vacancies before the end of August, and many of the roles could be perfect for students living in the Ashfield district of Nottinghamshire or nearby.

In addition to the warehouse roles, there are also other positions to be filled such as engineering jobs, Human Resources functions and finance vacancies.

Announcing the upcoming recruitment drive, Amazon’s director of UK customer fulfilment, Jonatan Gal, said: “We are excited to continue our expansion in the UK’s East Midlands, creating a further 1,000 new permanent roles. As well as providing competitive wages and benefits from day one, we have also invested heavily to create the most modern, high-tech and safest working environment for our employees.”

“This new state-of-the-art robotics fulfilment centre is another sign of our commitment to the people and communities in which we operate, employing thousands of talented individuals in a diverse range of roles from operations managers and tech professionals through to our frontline employees who manage customer orders,” added Mr Gal.

Councillor Jason Zadrozny, the leader of Ashfield District Council welcomed the news, saying: “It is fantastic that Amazon has announced they’ll be opening their latest fulfilment centre in Ashfield. This is possibly the largest ever single investment in the Ashfield area and in the region as a whole. Ashfield District Council has worked hard to attract a large multinational to the District, and that hard work has paid off.”

“An investment like this is a real game-changer for the district and the amount of further investment it will bring will have an incredible effect on Ashfield. At a time when many industries are cutting jobs due to the effects of coronavirus, having over 1000 new jobs coming to Ashfield will have a significant impact on the district."

“We will be working closely with Amazon with their recruitment and any opportunities to work with local communities. I would personally like to welcome Amazon to Ashfield,” added Mr Zadrozny.

The chief executive of Ashfield District Council, Carol Cooper-Smith, also commented, saying: “Investment attracts investment, and with that comes high-quality jobs and incredible career opportunities for Ashfield residents. Building aspirations is something the council are committed to achieving and the possibilities companies like Amazon can bring to the district are endless.”
