DVLA Creates 400 New Temporary Jobs In Swansea

The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) is creating 400 new temporary jobs in Swansea in order to reduce the backlog of applications which has built up during the pandemic.

300 of the contract vacancies are for administrative assistants, with a further 100 positions available as assistant officers for the DVLA.

The Agency hasn’t said exactly how long the fixed-term contracts will last but the new recruits will be based at one of the DVLA’s three bases in Swansea.

The DVLA, a branch of the government’s Department for Transport, has faced a growing backlog of applications due to a combination of factors including reduced staffing levels, social distance measures in the workplace and the prioritisation of HGV drivers and key workers during the Coronavirus outbreak.

With the DVLA employing around 6,000 staff in full and part time roles, the agency will temporarily increase its headcount by almost 7 per cent until the fixed term contracts in Swansea expire.

Announcing the recruitment drive for temps in Swansea, a statement from the DVLA said: “We are looking for focused, organised and efficient individuals to join our team. We’re seeking individuals who feel they can help to improve the services we offer our customers and who enjoy a varied workload.”

“The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency is an executive agency of the Department for Transport (DfT). We are responsible for maintaining over 45 million driver records and over 38 million vehicle records and collect over £6 billion a year in vehicle tax. DVLA is working hard to ensure we meet the needs of our customers during these unprecedented times.”

“The need for additional resources across our services to support our response to coronavirus is a key focus, and we are looking for highly motivated flexible individuals who are customer focused to undertake a wide range of administrative and coordination support services to support the operations and customer service directorate.”
