Trustpilot To Create 30 Research & Development Jobs In Edinburgh

Trustpilot, the online reviews platform, has announced plans which will see it create around 30 research and development (R&D) jobs in Edinburgh.

The digital jobs will be created at Trustpilot’s new R&D and Innovation Hub in the Scottish capital.

The investment has been secured after Trustpilot agreed a £1.8 million deal with the government’s economic development body, Scottish Enterprise.

Trustpilot says that the 30 new jobs will be ‘highly skilled’, making them attractive to experienced graduates looking for jobs in Edinburgh, and that the data science positions will be created over the course of the next three years.

Trustpilot receives over 1 million consumer reviews every month, allowing other shoppers and business users to form a clear and transparent assessment of the services they are thinking of using.

The firm hopes that the R&D hub in Edinburgh will help them to weed out any fake or fraudulent reviews from their system.

The company, founded in Denmark in 2007, has over 800 employees in London, Berlin, Copenhagen, Denver, Melbourne, New York and Vilnius.

Announcing the new jobs in the Scottish capital, the founder and chief executive officer of Trustpilot, Peter Holten Muhlmann, said: “The technology scene in Edinburgh is thriving, with exceptional talent and an enviable network that will help us to meet our ambitions. We’re delighted to bring our global efforts to Scotland.”

“With the assistance of Scottish Enterprise, our new global R&D hub will become the epicentre for accelerating our already leading efforts to tackle abuse and fraud related to consumer information; particularly consumer reviews,” added Mr Muhlmann.

Trustpilot’s chief legal and policy officer, Carolyn Jameson, also commented, saying: “Creating a fair and open environment where consumers’ voices can be heard and businesses are able to earn greater trust in their products and services requires the best thinking and expertise. We believe Edinburgh is the top place to find it, and I’m really excited to be a part of this initiative.”

Scottish Enterprise’s director of global investment, Mark Hallan, said: “Trustpilot’s decision to set up an R&D centre in Edinburgh is most welcome. Over the past few months, we have seen exponential growth in digital consumer activity and e-commerce, so it’s vital that customers can trust information that is available online, including online reviews. Trustpilot’s R&D project aims to improve the integrity of this data, providing increased confidence for e-consumers.”

Scottish minister for trade, investment and innovation, Ivan McKee, welcomed the announcement, saying: “I am delighted that Trustpilot has chosen to base its new global R&D and innovation hub in Edinburgh where it will develop world-leading technology.

“This grant from Scottish Enterprise will help secure new highly skilled jobs in Scotland, bring new investment into our leading digital and technology sector and further enhance Edinburgh’s reputation as a global technology centre,” added Mr McKee.
