Aldi Ups Pay & Creates 3,800 New UK Supermarket Jobs

Supermarket chain Aldi has said it will increase pay for all staff as well as creating 3,800 new full or part time jobs in the UK this year.

The German discount retailer plans to raise all employees wages by more than three per cent from the start of next month, taking the lowest wage at Aldi to £9.40 per hour from the current level of £9.10.

Aldi staff who work within the M25 boundary will see their hourly pay rise to £10.90 from £10.55.

Loyalty is also being rewarded at Aldi, with employees who have been with the firm for more than three years set to receive even more remuneration, with new minimum pay rates of £11.15 per hour in London and £10.41 across the rest of the UK.

In addition to a great basic hourly rate, Aldi also pays its staff for their breaks.

Praising his employees, Giles Hurley, the chief executive of Aldi UK, said: “The dedication and commitment our store colleagues deliver every day when serving our customers underpins our success. We have the most efficient and productive workforce, and this is why they earn the highest rates of pay in the grocery sector.”

“We want to recruit the best people in retail, invest in their training and provide them with the opportunity to develop their careers with Aldi as our business grows,” added Mr Hurley.

Aldi has plans to expand its portfolio by almost 40 per cent, from its current number of 874 supermarkets in the UK to around 1,200 stores in the next five years. As part of the expansion plans, Aldi expects to create 3,800 new supermarket jobs in 2020 alone.

We mentioned earlier that Aldi pays its staff even when they are on their breaks. Here’s some info about other ways in which UK supermarket chains offer staff perks.
