Retailer Debenhams has said it has created 7,000 Christmas jobs for the festive holidays in 2019.

Debenhams say that all of the 7,000 roles have already been filled in order to help them deal with Black Friday next week, before the onset of their busiest period of trading at Christmas and in the January sales.

In order to provide a smooth experience for Christmas shoppers, Debenhams are also enlisting the help of 500 existing staff from their London head office who will assist their colleagues at local stores.

Debenhams have also made a point of casting their recruitment net wider to fill their Christmas vacancies this year, drawing on talent from the hospitality sector as well as from the retail industry.

Commenting on the seasonal recruitment drive, an area manager for Debenhams, Gemma Tomlinson, said: “Our current team of colleagues are a testament to the local workforce, and we are delighted to welcome our new recruits. Many colleagues that work with us over this period stay on as permanent members of staff, so it is a crucial time in our recruitment calendar and a great opportunity for those seeking a career in retail.”

“Debenhams’ emphasis on flexible shift patterns will ensure additional colleagues are in store whenever customers need them,” added Ms Tomlinson.
