The Range, a British home, garden and leisure retail chain, is to create over 1,000 new full and part time jobs in Bristol with plans to open a massive new distribution centre in the city.

The new £100 million 55 acre warehouse will be located near Cheddar and, once complete, will double up as a training hub for smaller warehouses around the United Kingdom. The Range will join other big retailers with distribution facilities in the area, such as Asda, John Lewis, Morrisons and Tesco.

Owner of The Range, Chris Dawson, said that his company had bucked the UK retail trend by continuing to expand during the recession and that the new distribution centre in Bristol was the latest step in further expansion plans, with over 30 new stores planned for this year. He also revealed how the new Bristol deal was sealed:

“I did this deal on my favourite beach in Barbados, the same place I was when I bought all of the MFI stock year's back, I think the Pina Colada's at the hotel have something special in them as I always do some of my best negotiating after a couple.”

“Along with over 1,000 new jobs at the site this building will deliver long-term service contracts for local suppliers and inject millions of pounds into the Bristol economy every year whilst support local firms during the construction. I will also offer tours to schools. colleges and universities as I am keen to give the future industry leaders a chance to see how a big UK operation works,” added Mr Dawson.

The Range’s new warehouse in Bristol will be finished some time in 2017 and will support around 1,050 full or part time jobs.
