Argos Adds Over 9,000 UK Christmas Jobs To Its Shopping List

Argos, the British high street and online retailer, has announced that it will be advertising over 9,000 temporary UK Christmas Jobs for its busiest period of trading this year.

England will see 8,000 holiday jobs advertised, while Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland will have 700, 500 and 250 Christmas vacancies advertised respectively. In total, around 9,450 temporary jobs are expected to be created by Argos across the UK at more than 700 stores.

The temporary contracts for Christmas staff at Argos will initially be for three months, but the retailers says that some of the roles will be converted into permanent jobs after the Christmas and New Year holidays are over.

The number of temporary Christmas jobs on offer at the retailer for the 2014 holidays pretty much matches the thousands of extra staff that Argos took on last year when the total number of full and part time employees increased by around 30 per cent.

Argos serves around 120 million customer each year - and around half of those shoppers enter their stores in just the few weeks around Christmas. So, as you can imagine, they really need to swell their ranks over the holiday period to have any chance of keeping up with the demands of their eager customers.

Explaining their need for good quality staff at this time of the year, director of Human Resources at Argos, Sonia Astill, said: “As we approach our busiest shopping period of the year, we need the extra support in our stores. We are looking for people who are customer focussed, energetic and enthusiastic to join our teams to ensure we continue to deliver brilliant customer service.”

As well as the competitive pay for festive workers at Argos, new members of staff are also entitled to 10 per cent in-store discount at Asda - and a whopping 20 per cent discount at sister company Homebase. Think of how much you could save on your own Christmas shopping with those sorts of discounts!

And, pointing out that Christmas jobs at Argos can lead on to other things, Ms Astill added: “People are at the heart of our transformation as a business and we are excited to welcome new people at this key time for us. We can offer fantastic, flexible training that will also benefit colleagues for the long term.”
