Sainsbury’s Extension Could Create 100 Shropshire Supermarket Jobs

An extension to an existing Sainsbury’s in Shrewsbury could create up to 100 new full or part time jobs in Shropshire according to local newspaper, Shropshire Star.

Sainsbury’s already have planning permission for an 18,000 square feet extension of the sales area at the Meole Brace retail park site, but are to submit further plans for an additional 1,000 square feet, along with more improvements such as redesigning the car park and relocating the petrol station.

If the revised plans are accepted by the council in a few weeks time then dozens of new full and part time jobs would be created at the Shrewsbury Sainsbury’s and work would get underway next year. The plans are currently on display within the store and students who might be interested in the supermarket jobs which will be created can keep track of what is happening with the proposal on this page of the J Sainsbury’s corporate website.

Speaking about the proposals for the Sainsbury’s in Shrewsbury, development surveyor, Jo Hawley, said: “We have been looking to invest in and improve this store for some time and we hope to submit a revised planning application for an extension in the next few weeks. If Shropshire Council approves the new plans we hope to start work in early 2015.”

Sainsbury’s has around 1,200 supermarkets and convenience stores in the UK and employs over 160,000 members of staff in a variety of full and part time roles.

We regularly advertise supermarket jobs to the students and other young people who visit our site. And it’s not just with the big names like Sainsbury’s and Asda - we advertise full and part time roles in smaller chains of supermarkets too. Supermarket work is great for students as the hours are very often flexible and there are usually a few other perks of working in supermarkets.
