5,000 New Full & Part Time Jobs At Asda

29 Jan 2012

5,000 New Full & Part Time Jobs At Asda Asda, the supermarket owned by American firm Wal-Mart, has said it will invest over £500 million in the UK in 2012 and will create up to 5,000 full and part time jobs in the process.

The £500 million investment will be split between new stores and depots, and refurbishments to current stores and outlets. Asda will open an average of two new stores a month in 2012 and will make upgrades and refurbishments to over 40 outlets. They will also create three new depots during the year.

All this activity will create up to 5,000 new full and part time opportunities for unemployed and young people in local areas all over the country. Over 180 thousand people are on the payroll of Asda at the moment and Asda filled around half of their vacancies last year with young people at their 500+ outlets.

Speaking recently about the new full and part time jobs that would be created, Prime Minister David Cameron said: “The additional investment and 5,000 new jobs announced by Asda today will be a real boost for the economy and more importantly for people around Britain seeking jobs. I also welcome Asda’s commitment to not only create jobs but invest in their staff too - offering employees the chance to join an apprenticeship scheme to gain skills which will benefit them throughout their career.”
