28 Feb 2011

Sports Village To Bring Full & Part Time Jobs To York University Approval has been granted for the York Sports Village at York University and up to 30 full or part time York jobs will be created next year.

Construction will start on the Heslington East project in Spring this year and will cost £9 million by the time it is completed in Summer 2012. Funding is being put up from three sources – York University is contributing £5 million, the City of York Council £3 million and Sports England £1 million.

Students at York University, along with staff and the public will be able to use the planned facilities at the new sports village which will include a gym, an eight lane swimming pool and various sports pitches. Once the new facilities are up and running at York University, it is thought that up to 30 full or part time York jobs could be advertised.

The University of York’s vice-chancellor, Professor Brian Cantor, said: “York Sports Village will further enhance the student experience at a world-class university. We already provide excellent sports and recreational facilities for students, staff and the community, but the Sports Village will take them to a new level. In partnership with the council, we are determined to deliver what will be a fantastic sporting asset for our students and for everybody in the city.”
