Big City Companies Offer Internships To London College Students

09 Feb 2011

Big City Companies Offer Internships To London College Students An array of top City firms has said they will offer college students paid internships in summer 2011.

35 big finance names such as the Bank of England, Lloyd’s of London and JP Morgan have said they will open up internship schemes for A-level students from London areas including Westminster, Islington, Hackney and Tower Hamlets. Anyone in Year 13, with a strong academic record from those London areas – along with Camden, Southwark and Lambeth – will be considered for the placements.

Funding for the paid internship schemes comes from the City of London Corporation and a range of roles will be available. The A-level students who successfully apply for the internships could end up working in general finance positions, Human Resources roles or communications teams and could receive up to £21,000 in remuneration.

The internships with the City firms will be for a period of between six and thirteen weeks and will provide the interns with exceptional grounding and work experience in the finance sector.

Stuart Fraser, of the City of London Corporation, said that, “With the cost of higher education soaring, the programme has never been more important in equipping City-fringe students with the necessary skills to be a real asset to an employer.”

Fraser added that the number of job vacancies in the City was increasing and that new talent had to be sourced at an early age.
